To commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day, foster carers at Foster with Slough, were shown how much they were appreciated, after being treated to a day of pampering.
Showing heartwarming community spirit, Foster With Slough joined forces with Slough & Langley College, and Romsey Close Children’s Centre to host this special day, which included treatments, rejuvenating activities, mindfulness sessions and heartfelt group discussions.
The event also offered an opportunity for foster carers to connect with one another, share experiences and form new lasting friendships within their unique community.
Saima Arif, Head of Regulated Services at Slough Children First said, “Women make up a significant number of our foster carers and we are proud to work with them. From new foster carers who’ve recently started their journey, to those who’ve been fostering with us for many years, it’s a great feeling to know so many women who work hard to empower the lives of so many children and young people.
Foster carers were also gifted goodie bags consisting of a rose, scented candles and toiletries a combination of items donated by staff and by Tesco as tokens of appreciation.
This initiative, held in honour of International Women’s Day, was a meaningful way to recognise and appreciate those who dedicate their lives to providing safe and loving homes for children looked after.
Sue Butcher, Director of Children’s Services and Chief Executive of Slough Children First said: “Behind every foster carer who Fosters with Slough, is a team of dedicated members of staff to support them.
International Women’s Day is once year and it is important that our women and girls are celebrated and appreciated.
Our foster carers have an invaluable role in ensuring children and young people of Slough are Happy, Safe & Loved, Thriving, so we wanted to do something that would help them relax, considering how tirelessly they work.”
Foster carers play an invaluable role in the community, offering stability and support to children and young people.
Recognising their dedication, local partners arranged a special day focused on self-care and connection.
Denise, a long-time foster carer, expressed her gratitude: “Fostering is the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done, but it can be tough at times. Just having a day like this, where we can take a breath and feel appreciated, means the world to us.”
Another carer, Tanya, echoed the sentiment, saying, “As foster carers, we give so much of ourselves every day, so it’s wonderful to feel the community giving back. Today reminded me that we are not alone in this journey.”
As Slough comes together to celebrate its foster carers, this initiative serves as a reminder that while fostering can be demanding, it is an incredibly fulfilling journey, one made even more special by the kindness and support of the wider community.
